This on-line version of the Gray Wheelwright typing
test, designed in the 1930's, preceeded the more popular test developed by Myers-Briggs (Myers Briggs). Two American
physicians at Stanford University Medical Center,
Drs. Horace Gray and Joseph Wheelwright were students of Jung
and both became Jungian analysts. In 2002, Dr. Winer re-wrote the test analysis to transform the test's result of a 3 letter type
into a device that produced a 4-letter
type enabling its results to be directly compared to Myers Briggs test. The results were less than satisfactory, and a second and third edition of the test were produced. It gradually became clear that the test questions were antiquated and needed to be re-examined for relevancy, extensively edited for clarity, and that new questions needed to be composed. By May, 2006 the third edition proved to be reliable and the results were validated against both the Myers
Briggs and Keirsey test. Also, the number
of questions was reduced from 81 to 70.
